WOMEN CROSSING WITH BOATS CRY FOR LIFE JACKETS

36

Women commuting the Banjul-Barra crossing have expressed concern for their safety. Many venture the journey, commuting daily out of necessity – to go to school, to engage in business, to go to work or to transact an urgent matter.

But while they do this, there aren’t sufficient life jackets in the boats they board to secure their safety. The men, who sit on the edges of boats that transport them, wear the life jackets and the rest who sit in the middle have no life jackets. The women are crying out for life jackets for crossing safely.

Until Kunta Kinteh is ready, lives are at risk as these rickety boats ply this water way across the river.
