The Manager of the Ndimbalanteh Cooperative Credit Union, Joseph Demba, said their work in the country complements the effort of the government in alleviating poverty and promoting development.
Mr. Demba was speaking at the inauguration of the new outlet of the Ndembalanteh Cooperative Credit Union at the Serrekunda Central Market in the Kanifing Municipality on Saturday, February 6, 2016.
“The establishment of the showroom is aimed at paving the way forward to customers who are very far from our main head office as well as provide security for them,” he said.
According to the Ndembalanteh Cooperative Credit Union’s administrator, saving with the union also helps the membership to have a secure account and access to many other benefits. He said both the membership and customers pass book fees are D200.00 while calling on the general public to join in partnership towards complementing the efforts of government.
Commenting on the importance of the Credit Union, he said all reputable government agencies in the country have their own Credit Unions in order to help their staff.
He disclosed that in order for any member to access loan benefits, it has to only take six month.
He said some foreign embassies in the country also have their own credit unions.
Ida Ndure Faye, board chairperson, said the outlet is installed in order to facilitate the operations of their credit union and to also satisfy the customers without any delay. “Today’s installation of the new outlet is yet another significant milestone achievement in the history of the credit cooperative union as it would in no doubt fasten the operational mode of the Union,” she said.
Lamin M Sawo, the deputy board chairperson, tasked the membership to take ownership and always patronise the union. He noted that charity begins at home and in order to make things a reality, the general membership and staff should endeavour to take the lead and ownership of the union. According to him, some members in the credit union have benefited a lot ranging from compounds, business expansions and other fringe benefits.
Papa S. Njie, Markets Manager, who officiated the official opening on behalf of KMC, described the event as historic and timely. He said creating such an important outlet would in no doubt promote development and alleviate poverty within the Municipality, in particular, and the country, in general.
Ismaila Njie, a beneficiary, revealed that the day is worth celebrating as it is aimed at fighting poverty and promoting progress. He said his experience and association with the union has helped him a lot because it was through this that he was able to have his own compound and sustain his family. He called on the general public to come and join the union.
Adama Beyai, who moderated the event, also called on the people to work tirelessly with the credit union and make a difference.
