It took a Yankuba Jarju’s lone effort for Gambia to throw pepper on Bissau before fans of the Wild Dog hosts.

Gambia CHAN outfit drew Guinea Bissau two weeks ago at the Independence Stadium but the reverse fixture saw a different rhythm-singing Scorpions side.

Gaffer Alagie certainly appeared to have smoked all the gaffes he might have had with his experimental first-leg team, instilling in few crucial changes that would later prove decisive.

Pass-making midfielder Sainey Sambou – a new entrant in the first meeting –got the nod from the start partnering Musa Yaffa and Sampierre Mendy in midfield.

The new injections worked as Gambia bossed the midfield with impressive ball-playing.

Domestic league leading scorer Mustapha Drammeh was overlooked for a start but joined the fray along with Yaya Ndong and a much imposing Ousman Sillah.

The changes were a break away from Gambia’s culture of cautious play away from Banjul, outlining a new belief to attack no matter what awaits though against a Guinea Bissau side.

Real de Banjul’s Yankuba Jarju, who had a quite night in the first-leg, last Saturday, unleashed his venom and on a night he made his first international debut, delivering the goods –a brilliant slicing of the ball to the back of the net, the game’s winning goal.

Emboldened and no longer the team once rocked by confidence crises, the Gambian team returns home buoyed of facing Mali July 15th at the Independence Stadium for the first qualifier game.
