The National Environment Agency (NEA) in a press release issued to local newspapers in Banjul, The Gambia, informs the general public that an Executive directive has been received which authorizes that Operation Clean the Nation (OCN) will now be conducted twice in every month. Henceforth, OCN will now be observed on second and last Saturday of each month starting October 2014. In accordance with Section 8 (1) (A and B) of the Anti-littering Regulation, it is mandatory on all individuals to keep the sidewalk of their compound/business premises clean. In line with this Section, the Inspectorate Unit of the Agency, in collaboration with relevant stakeholder institutions, will be conducting routine inspection both during and after the operations to lookout for cases of noncompliance and those found wanting will be prosecuted according to law. By this directive all National Assembly Members, Governors, Seyfolus, Alkalos, Ward Councilors and government institutions are being urged to support in implementing this directive to the fullest throughout the country. The General Public is also reminded that restricted number of permits for movement of essential vehicles would be available upon application at the National Environment Agency. All individuals, institutions and organizations in need of such permits should submit their request to NEA latest on Wednesdays of the OCN week.
