Ministry of Finance Approves GRA New Commissioner of Customs

The Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) under the leadership of the Commissioner General, Yankuba Darboe through the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs (MOFEA) has appointed Ismalia Jallow as Commissioner of customs. The appointment, which is approved and endorsed by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs(MOFEA)  saw the replacement of Joseph Findi Njie who went on retirement after working over 42 years with GRA.

Mr Jallow was the Deputy Commissioner of operation at the Gambia Revenue Authority until his recent promotion to the rank of Commissioner of Customs

 The appointment came into effect this Month, January 1, 2022. Mr. Jallow’s vast experience has earned him working in various positions from the scratch to the current position as Commissioner of Customs at the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA).

When contacted, the Commissioner General of Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA), Yankuba Darboe, shed light on the newly appointed Ismalia Jallow and the retired former commissioner of customs, Joseph Find Njie, who have been working with GRA over the years.

In his comments, CG Darboe thanked the retired former commissioner of customs, Joseph Findi Njie for his hard work, tolerance and cooperation over the years.

CG Darboe further acknowledged working with the retired commissioner of customs Joseph Findi Njie over 35 years in the service, expressing appreciation to working with Mr. Njie.

He said Mr. Njie was always approachable and nice to talk to and above all he was a peaceful individual. He therefore wishes him all the best of luck and assure that his office doors are always open.

Regarding the newly appointed commissioner of Customs, the Commissioner General Yankuba Darboe, said Ismalia Jallow is a hardworking, dedicated and honest man.

 “I have worked with him for more than years from the days of customs to GRA”, CG Darboe described.

 He is somebody one can rely on for any responsibility.

In reaction to his appointment, Ismalia Jallow thanked the Commissioner General and his deputy who recognised his potential and decided to recommend him to the GRA board to this new position.

 He said it is a promotion to be appointed as commissioner of customs. He equally commended the minister of finance and Economic affairs for honoring Commissioner General and the board recommendation for him to handle this new position.

He described this appointment as a big trust bestowed on him by the minister of finance and Economic affairs and GRA board.

He assured that he will do everything possible to live up to expectation in service delivery to the Authority.

 He also praised his staff for their cooperation, hard work, commitment and professionalism in the execution of their work at all times. He advised them to emulate the senior management of GRA and continue to be united and exercise team spirit to better raise the flag of GRA at a higher height.

He praised his staff for their diligent hard work and commitment toward achieving the Authority’s dreams to maximize revenue for the Government.

He said this is only realized through unity, cooperation and hard-work, which he believes, his staff has been demonstrating over the years.

Moreover, Mr Jallow stated due to the love and care of the Commissioner General and his deputy commissioner in the promotion of peace that his department is continuing to register significant progress.

He assures GRA’s superiors his support in ensuring that his department continues to raise the bar of GRA.

 “I will do everything possible under this sun to ensure that while I am the commissioner of customs to implement the mandate of the Authority under the agenda provided which is a corporate strategy plan   guided by the Commissioner General. “I make sure to work toward achieving it,” Mr Jallow assured.

 Mr. Jallow also thanked the government of the Gambia for creating the conducive environment to enable GRA to meet its annual revenue target over the years.
