Gambian Film to be Launched Soon

Kololi. This latest development was disclosed at a press briefing on Tuesday organised by officials of the foundation at the CAID office in Kanifing South. According to Mr. Ebrima Ceesay, the Producer and Director of the film, the launching will also witness the screening of another film dub ‘SARATA’, which is the second produced by MANFOPA. He disclosed that these films have been screened in the country and also in Sweden, Denmark, Ethiopia, USA and Ghana. Mr. Ceesay revealed that ‘Hand of Fate’ was an award winning film that puts the country on the limelight, as it won the best indigenous film in the prestigious Nollywood and African critics’ Awards (African Oscars) on the 14 September, 2014 in Washington Dc. “Sarata is a film on the dangers of cervical cancer and the need for young girls and women to go for regular smear/pap test. This film will help to educate young girls and women about cervical cancer and encourages them to go for regular test, while serving as an advocacy material for hospitals, communities and schools against the threat,” he said. According to him, MANFOPA intends to use the film as a tool for change and social transformation, adding that films have always been a bridge between education and entertainment. “Theater and film has always been used to spread news, share history, or educate people about events outside their communities. Audience members often relate to characters on television drama and are motivated to participate in interactive opportunities for discussing the controversial and sensitive issues of sexuality, intravenous drug use, violence against girls and women, child abuse, environmental hazards, and other social issues affecting young people and communities,” said Mr. Ceesay.
