CILIP Project, in collaboration with Gamworks, donated D720,000 to
Kerr Chikam in the Upper Nuimi district of the North Bank Region (NBR)to build a borehole which was inaugurated on Wednesday, 13th January
2016.
Malik Joof, the village head of Kerr Chikam, said the borehole brought them
lots of joy and for which they are grateful to the CIlIP project.
“The water from the borehole is clean and cool and I hope this kind of
projects will continue to come to our village,” said Mr. Joof.

The Village head assured that the borehole would be handled very well.
Kumba Jallow, one of the members of the village, said the borehole with
the taps have ease the work done by the women in the village as it has
put an end to the tedious and painful pulling of bags from deep wells.

“It has also put a stop to the endless quarrelling and even physical
fights by the women over who should draw water first after waiting for
long periods in order to have your turn,” she further disclosed.
She said this intervention by CILIP has ended the drudgery associated
with fetching water for the household which is a daily need.

In inaugurating the borehole, Mr. Omar Kanteh, CILIP Project Zonal
Officer for North Bank and CRR, said they spent up to D50 million on
this project which benefits six villages in the area.
