Association of Community Initiatives Project (ACIP), with its
international partner organization, on Saturday, 5th April 2015
donated twenty grinding machines and a cash amount of more than one hundred thousand dalasi to women and youth groups in Bundung Mauritani Ward at a presentation ceremony held at the Bundung Red Cross Link.Speaking at the presentation, Mr. Sulayman Dawda Jammeh, the founder
of ACIP and also the Ward Councilor for Bundung Mauritani and Six
Junction Ward, said it is his organization in partnership with Musical
Friends of the Gambia in Holland which made this gesture possible.
He said there are 20 groundnut and fish grinding machines to be given
out to these associations within the community for them to improve and
make their daily food processing work easy. He indicated that each
organization will receive a pair of the machines.
“We target women groups, especially those that are organized in the
market. The pairs can grind groundnut, meat, fish and beans. Each
association will have at least two so that if one fails the other can
replace it. We have targeted five women groups within the community
and one in Kiang as well as the youth in the Ward,” said Mr. Jammeh.
He also advised that proper care should be taken in maintaining
the machines to be located at a hygienic place.
Mr. Jammeh said this is not the first time that his association is
supporting the community. He cited the stand pipes they have erected.
He thanked their collaborators who, he said, have been assisting them
since 2008 to enable them accomplish some of the developments.
Madam Damiana Vanwissen, the leader of Musical Friend of the
Gambia in Holland, said her relationship with ICIP came through Mr.
Jammeh who informed her about the good things in the Gambia.
She said two months after their meeting, she visited the country and
was taken by her friend to different places.
“When I returned this time, I formed an association to raise funds to
do what I am doing here to help those in dire need of aid. I hope in
the next coming years, I will be able to continue doing what I am
doing now,” said Madam Vanwissen.
Mr. Modou Conteh, Alkalo of Bundung, for his part, hailed both the
councilor and his partners for the assistance they are rendering to
the community.
He said the gesture is valuable and assured that it will go a long way
in assisting the women and youth.]]>
