Mr. Abdou M.C. Jallow, the former Deputy Commissioner of Operations of Customs, Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA), was finally laid to rest at the Banjul Cemetery in Jeshwang on Tuesday 16 February 2016.
Mr. Jallow, who was 57 years of age, died at the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital in Banjul on Monday, 15 February 2016.
Mr. Yankuba Darboe, the Commissioner General of GRA, described the death of Abdou Jallow as a great lost to the nation and particularly the GRA.
“When Abdou felt ill for some days, we have tried very hard to help him recover, but unfortunately this is what Allah finally decided,” said the GRA Commissioner General.
Also speaking about the late Abdou Jallow, Alhagie Conteh said they were colleagues and friends for the past 40 years. He said Mr. Jallow started work at the Customs and Excise Department in the mid seventies immediately after graduating at Saint Augustine’s High School in Banjul.
“Abdou was a great footballer who has played for both the first division Starlight Football Club and the Gambia national team,” he disclosed.
The funeral was attended by a very large crowd, comprising his former colleagues at GRA, religious leaders, government officials, members of the security forces, relatives and friends from all sectors of society who came to pay their last respects.
After the prayers at the Independence drive mosque in Banjul, the corpse of the late Mr. Abdou Jallow was held by his former colleagues at Customs to its final resting place at the Old Jeshwang Cemetery.
From there, the mourners headed to his family residence at Campama Estate in Banjul.
Abdou Jallow, who is the son of the late M.C Jallow, a former minister under the Jawara government, is survived by two wives and children.
