By Kebba Jeffang Mrs. Fanta Susso, a twenty nine year old married woman, died instantly on the spot on the evening of Wednesday, 10th September, 2014 at Fajikunda when a tree uprooted by the wind fell on her during a heavy down pour which was accompanied by heavy thunder and lightning. Confirming this sad news to Foroyaa yesterday, Mr. Ismaila Ceesay, a relative to the decease, said the incident occurred at night when it was heavily raining. He said the late woman was walking outside together with her husband when the gmalina tree uprooted by the heavy wind fell down on her. “The tree knocked her on a wall fence which eventually crushed her hips and chest leading to her instant death on the spot,” said the grief stricken relative. He said the Fire and Rescue Service team later arrived at the scene to help in removing the body from underneath the tree and broken cement block fence. “The body was then taken by the Fire and Rescue Service team to the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital in Banjul,” he said. He described Fatou as a very good woman and pointed out that her death is a great lost to her husband, relatives and friend. When contacted on the matter, Mr. Muhammed Drammeh, the spokesperson for the Gambia Fire and Rescue Service (GFRS) confirmed the accident, adding that they were informed about it on the very night of the incident and that their team rushed to the scene to rescue the victim. He said the team evacuated the victim, but was confirmed dead on arrival at the Serekunda Hospital in Kanifing. ]]>
