A nation protects its natural resources not for the sake of protection, but to harness it for the survival and development of her people.
In that regard, the fines, which the Minister of Fisheries in answer to a question in the National Assembly indicated to be 52 million dalasi, should be allocated to the national navy for investment and equipment to ensure the security of our waters and to purchase fishing trawlers for a fishing fleet of our country. Any government that fails to do this is not committed to self-reliance and sustainable development.
