The University of the Gambia (UTG) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding 
(MOU) with Adnan Mendres University in the Province of Aydin in Turkey at a ceremony held on Saturday, 14 February 2015, at the Faculty of Law hall in Kanifing.
The signing was done by Professor Momodou Kah, the Vice Chancellor, on behalf of UTG and Madame Semha Oyus, head of Turkish delegation and Member of Parliament, on behalf of Adnan Mendres University.
Professor Kah, in his remarks, said the MOU aims to strengthen the bilateral ties between the two universities, as well as to share ideas and exchange visits.
He expressed his profound gratitude and thanked the Turkish university for their collaboration.
The UTG Vice Chancellor assured their commitment towards the partnership and expressed the hope that the MOU goes beyond this ceremony. He invited students and lecturers from Turkey to come and visit the UTG, adding that they will be responsible for their accommodation and the other logistics.
He also expressed his happiness that there is a Gambian student studying at the Adnan Mendres University, adding that they are hoping for fifty others to study in the nearest future.
He concluded that they have already started studying Turkish Language in the UTG.
Speaking earlier, Mr. Madi Jatta, acting Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (MOHERST), said the objective of the twining is to offer experience and partnership between the two Universities.
He said the twining is timely and will bring capacity building and exchange of visits.
He assured his ministry’s support in making the twining successful.
Giving a brief explanation of the Adnan Mendres University, Professor Mesut Ermazor said it is among the best universities in Turkey and was established in 1992.
He said the University has a lot of campuses, hospitals, labs and farms among other things.
Professor Mesut Ermazor said the University has currently enrolled 70 international students including the Gambian student, Mustapha Touray.
He expressed the hope that many students from the Gambia will come to their University.
In a separate but similar development, an MOU signing ceremony was also held on Sunday, 15 February 2015, between the West Coast Region of The Gambia and the Aydin Province of Turkey.
