TOSTAN HOLDS INFORMATION SEMINAR FOR

PARTNERS IN URR

By Lamin Fatty In URR Tostan Gambia in partnership with UNICEF and Government of the Gambia TAC membersthrough the National Women’s Bureau has organized a one-day information seminar for regional partners on Tostan’s approach, strategies and objectives. The seminar which was attended by regional TAC members, NGOs, security officers, women and ward councillors, as well as influential community members and was held at the regional education office hall in Basse Mansajang Kunda. In his welcoming remarks, the national coordinator for Tostan Gambia Mr. Ansu Kambaye welcomed the participants on what he called an important gathering. He said the objectives of the seminar among others is to empower the regional stakeholders and partners on Tostan community empowerment programs, objectives, strategies, approach and state of implementation of program activities and obtain their feedbacks, recommendations and way forward to enhance performance and strengthen partnership. For his part, the operation commander at the Basse police station Mr. Momodou Danso, speaking on behalf of the Commissioner of Police in URR, commended Tostan for complementing the efforts of his ministry in bringing the maintenance of peace and security to the doorsteps of the rural poor. He thanked them and assured them of his ministry’s fullest support. The regional Ombudsman in URR Mr. Kebba Keita also expressed similar remarks. He stated that he has been participating in Tostan activities and has learnt a lot on Tostan. He highlighted that the people of URR are very lucky to benefit from such an important program meant to improve lives and complement the government in sustainable national development. He thanked them for their efforts and challenged them to keep up the good work. The chairman of the Basse Area Council Mr. Jahara K Juwara deputizing for the regional governor, thanked Tostan for its contribution to the empowerment of the communities in URR. He said the intervention in URR has complemented the efforts of the government in national development. He thanked Tostan for the good work and urged them to continue the noble work. Mr. Edrisa Keita, the Assistant National Coordinator of Tostan Gambia presented the Tostan CEP approach, objectives and strategies. This was followed by discussions, question and answer session and recommendations by partners.  ]]>
