By Sailu Bah Sensitive Youths Association (SYA) on Sunday 9 November, trained women and youths in Human Rights, Good Governance and leadership concept and peace building at the Nusrat Senior Secondary School grounds. Speaking at the opening, Modou Lamin Sanyang, Chairperson of SYA, said the Sensitive Youth Association has been organising a series of such programmes to capacitize youths and women for their future betterment. He said they believe that youths and women need such advocacy approach given the fact that their roles are very important and crucial in the community and thus needs a positive change through capacity building programmes. In terms of partnership for development, SYA has partnered with so many important and recognized youth groups namely Ebbegi Youth Development Association, PAYFORD, Baobab Youth Development Association, and has most recently signed an MOU with Beakanyang Kafoo. Kebba Jeffang Secretary General of SYA said Sensitive Youth Association was early this year opportuned to receive a critical and educative training from Concern International on the thematic areas such as Good governance, peace building and sustainability. He said several members of the association attended the training as beneficiaries. He said the project is concerned with matters that affect the daily lives of youths and women. He added that it is very important for women and the youth to be well and rightfully informed about their roles in society especially in decision making positions, which is in line with the 1997 Constitution of the Gambia. Furthermore he said it is equally important as far as the project is concerned to focus on other laws, specifically the Local Government Act. He said this will help the local people to understand and be informed about their rights and limitations as far as Local Government administration is concerned. ]]>
