With Saikou Suwareh Jabai

You are welcome to yet another edition of your weekly Student’s Voice. We feature stories, articles, poems, etc, from students and teachers alike. We encourage other students to contribute and get their writing skills developed. The column is open to all and sundry in the education milieu in The Gambia. Sit back, relax and enjoy these fascinating pieces.

QUOTATION OF THE WEEK

“Each day is different, but within every 24-hour period we can generally find some time for the things that are important to us, even if just in the smallest amounts,” -Cyd Casados.

THE MOON

As soon as the light fades
And the breeze comes in curly waves
Under the moon lies the brightest stars
My heart jostled in my chest
My passion for you
Can’t be measured
It’s beauty could be compared to the moonlight
And by the beach it was rekindled
The moon witnessed our moment
It’s light shined on our faces
As our heartbeat could be heard afar
Washing away the pain we once felt
My heart is caged
This emotion is not fake
Distance comes between us
But the moon is fair
It unites our hearts each night
Bringing back memories of that day
And knitting wonderful dreams
Till morning comes to earth.

 VOICE

Talk!
When you’re questioned
Talk!
When you’re accused
Talk!
When you’ve an idea
Talk!
When you’re needed
Talk!
When u want to
Talk!
Don’t say
what will only please people’s heart
Instead
Say something worthy
Something truthful
Something that would not earn u sins
Something that no creature will hail
Say the fact
Express yourself
Your feeling
Don’t beat around the bush
Have confidence
And be straight forward
Talk!
Even if nobody wants to listen
Talk!
Even if their hearts will burst
Talk!
Even if they don’t like u
Talk!
Even if they’ll kill u
Talk!
They’ll say you’re noisy
Talk!
They’ll call u a liar
Talk!
They’ll say your mouth stinks
Talk!
They’ll befriend u
Talk!
As far as you’re saying the truth
Talk!
As far as they don’t understand
Ask!
Make them understand your words
Talk!
Preach the sinners
Talk!
Advice the young
Talk!
Encourage the poor
Talk!
Entertain the sad
Talk!
Don’t be shy
Talk!
Don’t be afraid
Talk!
Don’t lie
Talk!
Don’t underrate yourself
Talk!
Don’t think what you’ve in mind is meaningless
Talk!
Let people argue on your words
Talk!
Let people criticize
Talk!
Let people laugh
Talk!
Let people agree to your words
Talk!
And be out of trouble
Talk!
And make people like u
Talk!
Inspire people
Talk!
Entertain people
Talk!
Educate people
Talk!
And get relieved
Your voice is your power
