The Soldier Town Ward in Banjul has benefited from funding by the Community
Livelihood Project (CLIP) to rehabilitate its drains to prevent flooding during the rains.
Speaking to this reporter, the Ward Councillor, Mr. Tunko Jammeh said his ward is among eight of nine wards in Banjul that has benefited from this Islamic Development Bank funded project under GAMWORKS.
He said the project is underway and will cover Pignard Street, Oxford and Louvel Square and that as the first beneficiary they have identified a 315 meters drainage system on these streets within the ward for rehabilitation.
Mr. Jammeh said the councilors were tasked to work with their communities and come up with tangible activities for funding.
He disclosed that the project cost D700,000 of which 5 percent was contributed by the ward which, he said, is equivalent to D35, 000.
Councilor Jammeh said he and his Ward Development Committee had met with the community to identify the project as a priority area.
He said the rehabilitation work will help to address the poor drainage system which, he added, poses a health risk to the community as garbage is dumped inside the gutters.
The Soldier Town Ward Councillor said the project contract is awarded to BASIN Company Limited which, he said, is owned by a young Gambian.]]>
