The Salimatou Foundation for Education (SaFE) is the latest to join the long list of civil society organisations in the Gambia thatmembers-of-safe have condemned Outgoing President Yahya Jammeh’s rejection of the 1 December 2016 presidential election result and are calling on him to leave office at the end of his term on 19 January 2017.

SaFE acknowledges that the Gambian electorate has already decided by electing Incoming President Adama Barrow as their choice. They expressed their dismay that the outgoing president, who had initially accepted the results and called to congratulate the President-Elect Barrow, could now make a u-turn.

The leadership and members of SaFE have expressed their concern about maintaining the peace and tranquility in the country in the interest of young people, in particular, and the entire population in general. They are therefore calling on the outgoing government to respect the sovereignty and will of the Gambian people by ensuring a peaceful handing over of power to President-Elect Barrow on 19 January 2017.
