One of the leading GSM Companies in The Gambia on Saturday 6 May, 2017, launched its latest brand new mobile network called 4G LTE at the just concluded Trade Fair at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.
The gathering attracted potential customers of the Company, the top echelon of government and private sector officials among others.
In his welcoming remarks, the CEO of QCell Mr. Muhammed Jah said the Qgroup has moved another milestone in the history of their journey to contribute their quota as good citizens to the development of their country the Gambia and the telecommunication technology and financial sectors in particular.
He informs that the Qgroup is a group of indigenous Gambian Companies including QuantumNET Institute of Technology, known as QIT, being the biggest technology institute in The Gambia graduating thousands of students in different disciplines of Information technology, and most recently they graduate students in financial and management disciplines.
“Secondly, QuantumNET Company limited is the biggest IT company in The Gambia providing information technology products and services ranging from software development, building of local and wide area networks, being the sole DELL distributor and a number of international products like Samsung, HP, APC, Haier, etc”, he explained.
The third, QCell SUNU BUSS, is the first 3G mobile communication service provider, providing affordable and quality mobile telecommunication services to the Gambian public since inception. He boasted that QCell Sunu Buss has revolutionised and stabilised the mobile communication industry in The Gambia and is now recognised as the most innovative company in the country with products like Qpower, efankanta, Qfootball, Qcurrency and the likes.
Furthermore, he noted: “The latest report from PURA shows QCell having countrywide coverage with the widest 3G mobile coverage,” in line with bringing telecommunication services to the doorsteps of the Gambian people.
Mr. Jah promised that the QCell will move Gambia from data and speed
shortage to data and speed abundance. He said, Qcell will welcome the
“NEW GAMBIA” with “NEW SPEED”.
He argued that the private sector will be an absolutely pivotal partner to government in transforming Gambians into wired up citizens that is so much needed to catch up with the rest of the world.
He revealed that Qcell has invested over 150 million dalasis in this first 4G LTE mobile technology in The Gambia. The first phase which has started covers part of the Greater Banjul Area and they expect to complete the entire Greater Banjul Area in the second phase.
“We are delighted to inform you all that QCell subscribers can now start using
our 4G LTE network at no extra cost. You can activate your 4G LTE
service on your phone by simply dialing *335# and the data rates for
4G LTE are the same as the current 3G rates,” he revealed.
Mr. Lamin Camara representative from the ministry of information and communication infrastructure said the ministry has over the years developed policies and launched initiatives to enable businesses and entrepreneurs to participate fully in the mainstreaming of the economy into the global digital economy. He expressed pleasure at QCell being an irrepressible pace setter in introducing innovative and relevant telecommunication services to the
Gambia.
Mr. Camara added that access to fixed broadband connections being limited here, 4G LTE will bring super-high-speed connectivity for many, for the first time, thus enabling us to join the global information super highway.
Businesses, especially in entertainment, media, and e-commerce, will benefit hugely from the faster and more reliable mobile data services, improving efficiency and productivity.
He described QCell as being a titanic presence in the Gambia’s technological ecosystem, introducing timely innovative services into the bloodstream of their GSM industry. He cited many initiatives by QCell that he regarded as proof of its dynamism and the leadership drive of its extraordinarily energetic and committed CEO, Muhammed Jah.
Mr Solo Sima, representative from PURA for his part said as an institution that is responsible of regulating communication, they are very proud with the milestone that Qcell is taking. “Qcell said they innovate and others follow, this is true for several times they have been innovative and others follow,” he noted.
