Potential Gambia international Noah Sonko-Sundberg has decided to call it quits with Swedish top tier side GIFsonko Sundsvall.

Sonko was shipped on a season-long loan to Sundsvall from fellow Swede side AIK Solna. The 20-year-old rocky defender was siphoned off after seeing first team chances hard to come by at the Stockholm-based giants.

And with minutes guaranteed to be limited, the defender opted on a switch to Sundsvall where he’d been a revelation during course of the domestic league campaign. At the Norrpoten Arena, he established himself a regular helping the club escape relegation, playing twenty-three of their thirty-league game run.

Efforts were made to ensure his stay at least beyond expiration of the initial spell but a concerned Noah wants stiff competition, where he could develop around a more experienced defence line, and chose to return to parent club AIK.

AIK gaffer Norling recently dished out lavishes at the rapid progress of the centre-back and considers the Swedish U-21 defender part of his itinerary for next season. This assurance is one of the reasons for Noah ending his love affair with Sundsvall.

Announcing his departure from the club, the starlet, writes: ‘Many thanks to GIF Sundsvall who contributed to my development this year! All supporters, players and officials have since day one supported me 100%, which is appreciated more than you think. As most people know, however, the decision has been to leave next year for various reasons. I would still like to wish you all the best and hope to see you in the future, ‘

Born to a Swedish father, Noah remains eligible to play for Gambia through his Gambian mother and is one of players Scorpions coaches rate highly.
