Philanthropist Donates to Dongoro-Ba Health Centre

By Mamadou Dem Vera Van Den Broek, a native of Holland, has again for the second timeVera receiving the Certificates and gifts from Mr. Dem donated medicine and dressing materials to the Dongoro-Ba Community Health Centre in the Lower River Region (L.R.R). Talking to this reporter in an interview, Madam Van Den Broek said she did not only donate these much needed drugs and medical items to the facility, but also served as a volunteer who worked there for two weeks. She noted that during her stay, she has been working with both the nurses and the members of the community. The Dutch philanthropist said she came to know about the facility sometime in 2012 when she visited The Gambia with her husband as tourists. She said when they arrived in the country, they told their tour guide who happened to be a native of Dongoro-Ba village to escort them to the countryside and he agreed. She said she and her husband (Theo Vera Van Den Broek) were astonished when they arrived at the countryside and saw such a health facility there. “We had discussions with the CEO and told him that we would come back and support the facility,” she said. Madam Van Den Broek expressed regret that she could not travel with the husband this time around due to his busy schedule, adding that she was not only in the facility to donate the items but also to support staff and patients at the facility, particularly women and children. She disclosed that she is also supporting two orphans by providing them with food and education. The Dutch philanthropist was earlier presented a certificate of appreciation and a token of African items by Kebba Dem, Board Chairperson of the health facility, who congratulated the volunteer and husband for sacrificing their time and resources for the continued progress of the facility.]]>
