PAC/PEC postpones IEC report presentation

The presentation of the audited financial report of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) which was expected to be presented before the Public Accounts Committee/Public Entreprises Committee (PAC/PEC) of the National Assembly was postponed on Tuesday, 12 April 2016, due to the new changes in the Commission’s leadership.
Mr. Alieu Momar Njie, the new Chairman of the IEC, requested for more time from the PAC/PEC to allow him to settle down, adding that he is just assuming office and needs to familiarize himself with issues. He assured that he will be serving the Gambian people with integrity and transparency.
Hon. Abdoulie Bojang, Speaker of the National Assembly and chair of the joint committees, congratulated both the IEC and its new chair in his appointment. He said he is thanking the Commission for what he described as a job well done and in serving the Gambians since its inception.

He also thanked the former chairman for serving the nation, adding that his name will be written in the history of the Gambia.
“We shall communicate to you anytime a date is set for you to come back and present your reports,” announced the speaker.

Mr. Alieu Momar Njie, the new IEC Chairman, was accompanied by two commissioners, including the vice chairman, and the finance director.
