In a telephone interview with this reporter, Prince Abubacarr Aminata Sankanu, the Deputy Spokesperson of the Gambia Government, said the Gambia is still on preparations to host the OIC Summit. However, Mr Sankanu, did not confirm whether the Gambia will host the summit this year or not as he said the year is just beginning and in  a few months’ time, they might come with a progressive report.

“We are working towards it. It is too early to say whether it is going to take place or not, while we are in January. There is work in progress in terms of projects, and in terms of conference organisation everything is being done,” he added.

On December 14th 2022, President Adama Barrow informed the Press that the Gambia was negotiating with the OIC Secretariat and member countries, to host the OIC summit in 2023.

And in a similar development during a recent bilateral meeting between Mrs. Retno Marsudi, the first female Minister for Foreign Affairs of Indonesia and Gambia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Mamadou Tangara, Indonesia pledged to support Gambia host the 15th summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) this year.
