By Mamadou Dem Foroyaa is reliably informed that a heavy storm that hit Sutukoba Village, in the Wuli East District, Upper River Region (U.R.R) devastated many compounds and left many farmers homeless. In a telephone interview, one Lamin Touray, a native of the village described the incident as ‘unfortunate’ as it has compelled many victims to vacate their homes and to be accommodated by neighbours and relatives. He said the unfortunate incident occurred on Sunday 22 June around 5-6pm; adding that heavy winds carried the roofs of houses whilst some fences collapsed. “We thank God that no one was injured but the destruction came at an odd time because we are expecting rains at any moment and as farmers, it would be difficult to redress the situation when we start going to the farm,” said Touray. The victims used this opportunity to appeal to all and sundry to enable them repair their houses before it rains; adding that most of the affected houses are made of “mud” blocks and if the situation is not addressed before the rains, then majority might end up losing their homes. Mr. Lasana Jawneh also a member of the village disclosed to this paper that the Governor of the Region, Omar Sompo Ceesay accompanied by one Mamadi Sanneh visited the village after the incident and has spoken to some of the villagers. The following are the people affected by the storm: Afang Lamin Touray, Yusuf Yafa, Alai Yafa, Alagie Krubally, Mbanding Jaiteh, Morro Jaiteh, Fa Saikou Jabbai and Bakary Trawally.]]>
