Sarjo Camara Singateh Mr. Modou Njie, the Director of Health Promotion and Education at the Ministry of Modou Njie Health Promotion DirectorHealth and Social Welfare, called on people to take necessary precautions and   protect themselves and what they consume from the dusty and windy weather these days. He made this appeal at a press briefing in his office at the Central Medical Stores on Tuesday, 3rd of March 2015. The Director of Health Promotion and Education said the acute respiratory             infections and diarrhoea are common during the windy periods because the wind blows anything and people should cover the food they consume, whether the home prepared or the one bought in the street. He advices the people preparing food in the open to cover them for the interest of the consumers’health. The Health Promotion and Education Director also advices parents to take care of their children to stop them from inhaling dust in the streets. He said the parents     should clean their children and apply shea butter (Kariteh) on them from nose, chest and the feet. Mr.Njie said the advice is that parents should put warm clothes on their children   and make sure that the young ones have caps on their head and should also keep their doors close to prevent children going out and stop dust coming into the house. “We don’t know where these winds are coming from. Sometimes you see the dust in red colour and if this enters in the nose and even the chest, it can cause complications. A brighter example is the people in the desert in North Africa are seen covering their nose with head scarfs. This is not a fashion for them but a means to protect them from the dust,” he noted. Mr. Njie said people should try and consume at least one fruit a day and to       clean or wash it before eating.   ]]>
