Gambia Press Union (GPU) has commenced a five day training of journalists on visual 
story telling through photography at its office in Fajara yesterday, Monday, 18 May 2015.
The aim of the training involving 16 journalists from the print and digital media, according to organisers, is to capacitise them on taking good photos which they can portray in their stories to meet international standards.
In his opening statement, Gibairu Jaineh, Executive Director GPU, said the training is on Photography and that the trainees are not only going to be trained on the practical aspects but also on best practices and use of photographs.
He urged the participants to make the best use of the training as the lead has vast experience in photography which he has been doing for twenty years now.
Mr. Janneh said this is the first of its kind for GPU to organize training of journalists in photography.
“Over the years, we have focused on training journalist on broadcasting and on the print aspects, but this one is first of its kind,” he said.
For his part, Dawda Bayo, the President of the Photographers Association and co-trainer, emphasised on the importance of the training. He said the training will also highlight the ethics of taking photos in addition to building the capacities of journalists in photography. He urged participants to take the training seriously and be punctual.
Mr. Morten Neilson, the lead Trainer from Denmark, said photogragp is a global language that portrays the actual story of an event. He said one photo can sell a text, adding that photographs are very important in making people to understand a story better.
During the course of the training sessions the participants were also given the opportunity to share their experiences and thoughts on photography.
