Ebola precaution measures. As part of its assistance in the global fight against the Ebola epidemic, the Federal Republic of Germany has allocated a total financial contribution of 108.7 Million € for West Africa. In September 2014, the Gambian branch of the German charitable organization ASB initiated a project entitled “Precaution measures in case of an Ebola outbreak in currently unaffected countries.” The Project with a budget of GMD 8,250,000 is financed by the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs and co-financed by the ASB Germany and the ASB Gambia. It will be implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare of the Republic of The Gambia and support and complement the Government’s efforts in keeping the Gambia free of Ebola. The project aims at the protection of front-line workers and other health personnel. The ASB Gambia will train 120 nurses and health personnel in the use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) to prevent a contamination when dealing with patients in case of any outbreak. In addition 30 health facilities will be equipped with protective materials such as protective suits, gloves and boots as well as chlorine, sprayers, plastic foil and non-touch thermometers to make sure that helpers will have the necessary material for their protection.
