National Youth President of Gambia Democratic Congress has confirmed the resignation of Alpha Khan from their party.

Modou MC Cham Jnr, confirmed the resignation letter of the deputy Chairman of Kerewan Area Council was received by the GDC sometime ago.

He explained: “When he (Khan) resigned from the party, he sent a copy of the letter to the GDC regional committee, where they informed IEC that Alpha had resigned and IEC should call for by Election.”

He added, “But the IEC said the Kerewan area council chairman should write to them first and confirm the resignation of Khan.’’

According to Cham, there was a push and pull between GDC and IEC for months.
He said GDC had done all the necessary things, including writing to IEC and ministry of local government to inform them about the matter.

He said when MPs called the chairman of the council, they told him to write to the IEC to show inform them that Khan has resigned from GDC, and that he should vacate his seat and go for by election.
