The Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC) has filed nomination papers for seven candidates for all the constituencies of the Region at the Regional Independent Commission’s Office in Kerewan.
The nomination papers were received by the Regional Independent Electoral Commission Returning Officer and who doubles as the Director of Operation IEC Mr. Ensa Baldeh. He accepted their submissions as valid describing them to be in accordance with the electoral laws of the country. The candidates are Modou Bobb for Lower Nuimi, Pa Omar Sonko for Upper Nuimi, Salifu Jawo for Jokadu, Mamut Touray for Lower Badibu, Momodou Lamin Jobe for Central Badibu, Papa Tunkara for Upper Badibu and Sheikh Gaye for Sabach Sanjal constituencies.
Speaking to the press, the candidate for Badibou Central said, “I am not a known politician but a revolutionary”. He told this reporter that he took part in the past local government elections but lost. “That time it was personal interest but now I am unanimously chosen by my people and I shall win” he noted. Mamut Touray said he was selected by his people who want improvement in agriculture so that they can have access to fertilizer and seeds on time and to bring unity, those principles, he said is what his mission is. All the candidates lamented the bad conditions of the roads, inadequate storage facilities, lack of good markets and inadequate viable seeds and fertilizer.
