GCCPC SENSITISES MDI STUDENTS, STAFF ON COMPETITION AND CONSUMER PROTECTION ACTS

Gambia Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (GCCPC) organized a sensitization lecture on the Consumer GCCPC SENSITISES MDI STUDENTSProtection Act 2014 and Competition Act 2007 at the faculty of law auditorium on Tuesday, the 17th February 2016. It was attended by a cross section of students and management staff from the MDI.

The training was chaired by Mr. Sheikh Omar Faye, Head of Gender and Development Department and Senior Management Trainer at the MDI.

In her opening remarks, Mrs. Fatou Barry, the Deputy Director General of MDI, said the GCCPC’s efforts should be commended as their presentation is timely in educating students and staff on competition and consumer protection issues. She said MDI provides learning for students outside the classroom by exposing them to public lectures on the mandates of key institutions.

Presentations on the Competition Act 2007 and Consumer Protection Act 2014 were given by Basiru Njie, an Investigator at GCCPC, and Mrs. Fatima Sonko Touray, the Director of Consumer Protection GCCPC, respectively.

This was followed by an interactive question and answer session from the staff and students of the institution. The students noted that prior to the programme they had no idea of their consumer rights or how to enforce them. GCCPC informed the students of a consumer protection HOTLINE NUMBER 911110 which they can call and lodge any consumer complaints they may have.

The management of MDI commended GCCPC for taking the time to come and enlighten them about their consumer rights and raising their awareness on Competition Laws.
