By Sailu Bah Gambia Agency for the Management of Public Works (GAMWORKS) held its 10th Annual General Meeting (AGM) at its headquarters on Bertil Harding highway in Kanfing Institutional Layout on Thursday, 29 January 2015. This event was graced by the members of the GAMWORKS board and staff, officials from government, municipal and regional authorities, parastatal bodies, civil society as well as media fraternity. Presenting the annual report and financial statements of the agency for the year ending 31st December 2013, Mr. Mustapha Njie, Chairman of the Board of Directors, described the period as another good year in terms of board governance and performance of its oversight functions, and management’s achievements in delivering successfully completed projects and delegated management contracts. The GAMWORKS Board Chairperson said the USAID bestowed on them a certificate of appreciation for the good collaboration and the excellent work done by the agency on the BaNaafa fisheries project. He said management with the support of the board, has also been successful in bringing in new projects and contracts into the agency, such as the US30 million GGC groundnut project and the US23 million Sukuta-Jambanjelly Road Project. “As we celebrate 20 years of existence of GAMWORKS, we note with pride and satisfaction that the agency has so far implemented US180 million worth of development projects and programmes from 1994 to date. We congratulate members and management on this achievement,” said the GAMWORKS Chairperson. Continuing his report, Mr. Njie dwelled on the issue of the environment and how both the global and local economies have impacted on the agency’s operations. He also talked about the major developments in the agency’s activities and operations during the year under review. In his report, Mr. Ebrima Cham, the Director General of GAMWORKs, said “despite the many challenges and constraints, I am happy to report that the agency was able to register significant achievements.” He said a number of projects and contracts were completed to the satisfaction of their clients and beneficiaries, the project funds received amounted to D190 million. He said payments to contractors during the period totaled D92 million and that D1.6million was paid to consultants and other service providers received D8 million. ]]>
