GAMPP elects a new executive

Gambia Association of Music Producers and Promoters (GAMPP) on Sunday 3 July 2016 elected a new executive body to steer theAbdou Karim Faye (Wagan), President affairs of the organisation for the next 2 years.

The two days event, which took place at the Alliance Francaise on Kairaba Avenue, was attended by music producers and promoters, managers of artists, journalists and media presenters, officials of the National Centre for Arts and Culture (NCCAC) among others.

It started with a forum on Saturday, 2 July 2016, which was followed on Sunday 3 July 2016 by elections of officials conducted by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC). During the forum, the participants discussed the challenges in the music industry and came up with resolutions and recommendations. The constitution of the association was also reviewed and adopted.

The event was coordinated and facilitated by Mr. Sheikh Omar Jallow of the NCAC, who underscored the importance of the GAMPP as an organisation whose aim is to create a vibrant music industry in the Gambia and to ensure compliance with the NCAC mandate for the execution of the copy right legislation.

Mr. Jallow indicated that the aim of the association is also to provide a platform for all these categories of stakeholders to be professionalised for a better music industry in the Gambia and for employment creation and productiveness towards  the socioeconomic development of the country.

In his acceptance speech, Abdou Karim Faye, aka Wagan, a renowned music promoter and the new elected president, assured his commitment to the development of this new organisation and urged his colleagues to commit themselves to the crusade.

According to the members, the GAMPP registration is open to anyone who falls under the category of Music Promoters, Producers, Presenters and Artist Managers and the membership fee is D1000 and another annual contribution for D1000 for licence, membership card and annual membership fees.

The following are the newly elected executive committee members: President, Abdou Karim Faye, alias Wagan, Vice President Music Managers, Ismaila Manneh, Vice President Presenters, Fatoumatta Kassim, Vice President Promoters, Gibril Faal, alias GFAAL, Treasurer, Baboucarr Jeng, Public Relation Officer and Njundu Badjie, alias Morgan.

A similar election was earlier held by the Gambia Music Union in which Jaliba Kuyateh, the renowned Gambian Kora Musician, was elected as its President.
