Adolinu Abubacarr Jassey, an elder brother to a kidney patient called Malang Jassey, solicits both medical and financial assistance for his younger brother to be treated overseas.

According to Abubacarr, his younger brother’s condition was detected in May 2022 by the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital (EFSTH) in Banjul.

According to him, Malang Jassey’s medical report from EFSTH stated that the 31 year-old is a resident of Soma in the Lower River Region (LRR), and was referred from Farafenni General Hospital.

“After a series of investigations, he was diagnosed with ‘End Stage Renal Failure’. A diagnosis of this was made and renal replacement therapy of hemodialysis was initiated for him on 25th May 2022,” the medical report affirmed. The medical report shows that both kidneys of the patient have increased in echogenicity and decreased in size. Still on the medical report, the right kidney measures 7.79 x 2.76cm x 0.599cm, while the left kidney measures 7.51 x 3.68 x 0.81cm.

Abubacarr said when first the disease attacked his brother, he could only pass drops of urine whenever he was pressed. That now he cannot urinate unless he is taken to the hospital for dialysis, three times a week. To avoid Malang having an overactive bladder, Abubacarr said the Doctor advised him not to drink lot of water; That he can only use the small water bottle of 500ml for 24 hours.

“He cannot walk more than thirty meters because if he does, he has difficulty breathing. His condition is severe and the entire family is worried particularly his wife,” Abubacarr said. He said the family is currently battling with financial challenges and thus calls on the indulgence of the government, philanthropists, NGOs and Samaritans to assist before Malang’s situation becomes fatal.

Notwithstanding, the medical report mentioned that the patient is currently using haemodialysis catheter as vescular access and he currently needs an arteriovenous fistula shunt for haemodialysis for a better treatment programme.  Therefore, he needs urgent overseas treatment for the replacement of both his kidneys.

For any assistance, Malang can be reached through his elder brother Abubacarr on 3430705 / 9593766 or their mother Aminata Jassey, on 5015457.
