The Senegalese Democratic Party (PDS) Friday declared its full support for the Diomaye Faye coalition two days before the presidential election.

The coalition, spearheaded by candidate Bassirou Diomaye Faye from the African Patriots of Senegal for Work, Ethics and Fraternity (Pastef), received the backing of the PDS, according to a press release signed by Abdoulaye Wade, former president and general secretary of the PDS.

In its statement, the PDS noted that the Diomaye Faye coalition is firmly committed to the strengthening of the rule of law and the guarantee of a fully independent justice system.

Earlier, the PDS intended to present the candidacy of Karim Wade for the presidential election, which was scheduled for February 25. However, the constitutional council rejected his candidacy over dual nationality, culminating in a legal challenge which was dismissed at the Supreme Court last week.
