Gambia’s deaf national scorpions are gunning for a place in the Deaf 
World Cup to be held next year.
The Gambian side must revel in the African deaf football championship now referred to as qualifiers to breeze into the third edition of the Deaf World Cup to be hosted by Italy July 2016.
The Scorpions are seeded in group A comprising Algeria , Ivory Coast and Libya in a qualifiers that runs from 9th -20th July this year after being given clearance as the eight nation to partake in the championship by Confederation of African Deaf Sports.
Group B of the qualifiers is made up of Egypt, Nigeria, Tanzania and Zimbabwe.
The Gambian outfit opens their campaign with a trip to Abidjan where the qualifiers is to be held. Maximum 23 players and six officials , who might include a manager, coach, secretary, an assistant and a team doctor/ physio and one FIFA approved referee, are the required number allowed to make each team. The team has until 22nd May to submit all forms related to the competition to the CADS.
And ahead of the Abidjan tourney, Lamin M. Ceesay Gambia Deaf Sports Association head has appealed for financial support from the public, companies and government institutions to ensure the team‘s participation.
‘We call on everybody to come to our aid including the Gambia Football Federation (GFF), Ministry of Youth and Sports through National Sports Council, Ministry of Youth and Sports, and Gambia National Olympics Committee (GNOC). We are also appealing to Gamcel, Africell, Qcell, Comium, Unique Solution and Net page who have been big part sports development in the country.
