IGP Receives Project Coordinator of German Police Support Team

The Inspector General of Police, Abdoulie Sanyang, on Tuesday 27th September 2021, received the Project Coordinator of the German Police Support Team (GPST) in The Gambia, Mr. Sebastian, and members of his team.

According to the Poliso Magazine, Facebook page of Gambia Police Force, the purpose of their visit was to discuss the progress and challenges of the project intervention areas.

Mr. Steffen Haas, a member of theGerman Police Support Team (GPST), highlighted the numerous training coordinated by GPST in the year under review. He equally pointed out training lined up for 2022.

“It is interesting to report that, the GPST has conducted series of training in Public Order Management, Command and Leadership, Tactical maneuvers, Marshal Arts, De-escalation and Riot Management, Traffic Safety and Accident Investigation, Crime Scene Investigations, among others, all in line with the objectives of the Security Sector Reform (SSR) Agenda. Equally, much-needed equipment was delivered to Gambia Police Force (GPF) by GPST in order to enhance operational capabilities,” he stated.

IGP Abdoulie Sanyang commended the German Police Support Team (GPST) for their genuine partnership and support. He noted that the GPST has been very visible in the institutional reform process, saying the visit was timely as it provided an opportunity for an open, frank, and interesting discussion.

Sanyang assured the GPST of his office’s continuous support and collaboration, adding the GPF-GPST partnership is immensely valued owing to the genuine and mutually beneficial implementation strategies.

In a similar but separate engagement, the IGP also received in his office a delegation of the Hanns Seidel Foundation from Germany.

The delegation was led by a Member of Parliament of the German Free State of Bavaria, one of the 16 States which form the Federal Republic of Germany Mr. Klaus Steiner, who doubles as the speaker for Economic Cooperation and Development Policy of the Governing Party CSU (in Bavaria).

The other members of the delegation included experts in the fields of Communication, Security as well as Project Management.

The Resident Regional Representative for West Africa and the Sahel of the Hanns Seidel Foundation, Mr. Klaus Grütjen, said the purpose of their visit was to foster partnership and cooperation with GPF in the areas of delivering training in Communication and other Security-related fields.
