Gambia’s President Adama Barrow has revealed that his government has given D5 million to the Gambia Islamic Council and D2 million to the Christian Council.

President Barrow made the disclosure during his Meet The People Tour held at old Yundum.

The Gambian leader said dashing millions to religious councils started to happen when he came into power.

“These religious councils have been existing in the country for about 55 years but never had such benefits,” he said.

President Barrow said his government has seen that religion is part of their livelihood, which is why they should empower religion in the country and also help those behind religions.

Meanwhile, Barrow promised the residents of Old Yundum that their hospital will be among the hospitals they would be renovating and upgrading across the country.

His promise came after the residents expressed that their health center is not functioning to standards.
