Muslims Hands -The Gambia Chapter has recently donated Personal Protective equipment (PPE) and sanitary materials to communities in Kombo East, Kombo South, Kombo North and Kanifing Municipality.
The support was meant to complement government efforts in the fight against Covid-19 in the Country. The beneficiaries of these donated materials included mosques, community health facilities and security border posts within the respective communities and the office of the Governor of the West Coast Region.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony held at the Governor’s Office, Ebrima Mass a board member of Muslims Hands said the group has been existing in The Gambia for the past 25 years and it has been supporting communities, orphans and the unprivileged during Ramadan and Tobaski.
Mass pointed out that with the recent closure of mosques in the country, the organization felt the need to support many mosques and communities to observe safety preventive measures during the time of worship, adding cleanness is key as far as COVID – 19 is concerned.
He called on the beneficiaries to always wash their hands before entering a Mosque and use face masks.
“COVID- 19 should be everyone’s business and this is why we are giving out support. We also realised that the government cannot do it alone,” he said.
Binta Sey, the National Disaster Management Coordinator West Coast Region on behalf of the Regional COVID- 19 Taskforce Committee described the donation as timely, noting that the donated items will greatly help the people of West Coast in combatting COVID-19.
She said with the increase number of COVID – 19 cases, communities should adhere to the COVID-19 preventive measures as advised by the Ministry of Health.
She acknowledged Muslims Hands for the support they have been rendering to the Region over the past years noting that the donation of the essentials sanitary materials was not a surprise to them because Muslims Hands are close partners with them.
“The items will be judiciously used for the purpose it is meant for,” she said.
Ba Jerreh Demba representative of the Governor of West Coast Region also recognized the donors for their support, adding that West Coast Region valued a lot the support Muslims Hands has been doing in West Coast.
He also disclosed that Muslims Hands has constructed a mosque and dug lots of wells in the Region, noting that their contribution to COVID-19 is a blessing to the country.
