‘Childfund’ Donates Textbooks to Schools

In their quest to promote quality and affordable education for Gambian children, Childfund the Gambia donated 26,788 textbooks to School children on Wednesday February 26th 2020.

The colorful event which took place at Childfund office in Kanifing was funded by a charitable foundation in the United States. The books were handed over to the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE) and Childfund local partners for onward distribution to school libraries.

According to Childfund, the books are to be distributed among the Lower, Central, Upper River, West Coast and North Bank Regions, to enhance the performance and promote the wellbeing of children in those Schools.

MusuKuta Komma Bah, Country Director Childfund the Gambia said the books will be handed over to the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE) and to their local partners for onward delivery countrywide. She explained that the donation of the books comes barely a month after they gave out 1,000 dream bicycles and over 2,000 footballs to Schools across the country. She highlighted the importance of education, saying there cannot be proper education without textbooks.

“Our conviction is that these textbooks will make a huge difference in many ways. We believe that it will help students and Schools,” she said; that the textbooks will help students in their performance and will in turn support to improve the quality of education in the country.

Nfamara Dabo, Program and Sponsorship Director at Childfund the Gambia said they will continue to engage their partners on such assistance both local and international in order to complement the efforts of Government.

Dabo said they have a project called the ‘‘Dream Reader’’ project which he said aims to enhance the reading culture of students and promote the quality of education for children through the provision of learning materials.

Musa Mbye, Board of Director of Childfund the Gambia said the International Organization operates effectively to provide support to children for them to become the type of people that society can be proud of.

Alieu Mendy, the Manager of “Ding Ding Yiriwaa Federation” gave the vote of thanks on behalf of the beneficiaries.
