By Rohey Jadama& Muhammed Bah The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) on Thursday 30th October,2014 handed two Toyota vehicles to Gambia Investment and Export Promotion Agency (GiEPA) in a ceremony held at the GiEPA head office along Kairaba Avenue. The EMPRETEC Gambia project is aimed at creating the enabling environment for entrepreneurship and MSMEs to flourish in the Gambia culminating in the achievement of the broad national objectives of inclusive growth, poverty reduction, increased employment and competitiveness. The project will run from 2014 to 2017. Speaking at the ceremony, the chairman of the occasion, Mr. Musa Bah from GiEPA , welcomed all to the handing over ceremony. The UNDP Resident representative to the Gambia Mrs Ade Mamonyane Lekotye, expressed delight for witnessing the handing over of the vehicles to GiEPA to facilitate the running of the Empretec Project which was launched on Monday 8th September 2014, at the Kairaba beach hotel. “This vehicle will help a lot in terms of training the entrepreneurs as training was done for some women in Banjul”, said the UNDP Representative. For his part, the Chairman of the Project Steering Committee, Mr. Abdoulie Touray, urged GiEPA to create more jobs and opportunities which will help in empowering the youth of the Gambia. “This project seeks to train and empower 5000 entrepreneurs”, said Chairman Touray . Delivering the vote of thanks, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Trade,Industry, Regional Integration and Employment (MOTIE), Mrs. Naffie Barry thanked UNDP for the gesture, adding that whatever her Ministry need in terms of development, UNDP supports it. She assured the UNDP Resident Representative that the vehicles would be put in to good use.]]>
