The United Democratic Party (UDP) has on April 6, 2017 filed nomination papers for 7 candidates for the forthcoming National Assembly election. When the nomination forms were tendered before the Returning Officer for North Bank Region, Mr. Ensa Baldeh, he accepted their forms and described them as viable and are in accordance with the Gambia electoral laws. The Candidates are Omar Darboe for Upper Nuimi, Mahtarr M. Jeng for Lower Nuimi, Boto Saidy Jeng Sabach Sanjal, Sulayman Saho for Central Badidou, Dembo K.M. Camara Lower Badibouu, Alagie Jawara for Lower Badibou and Sait Joof for Jokadu constituencies. Speaking after accepting their nominations, the Returning Officer said their documents are subjected to public scrutiny on Monday from the hours of 8 am to 12 noon and if they do not receive no objection from the public then they will be given campaign reconciliation papers in the afternoon.
Speaking to this reporter after nomination, Mahtarr M. Jeng when asked what laws he is going to advocate for in the National Assembly, he responded by saying he is going to make sure he drags the ward councillors to be involved in rural development. “I am not expected by my people to bring in projects but to provide projects” he noted. Dembo K.M Camara said he will make sure that his people get fertilizers for free for their farms. The 59 year old man added that his top priority is to provide rural fund for all the villages in his constituency. Omar Darboe said he is going to make sure that in every village there is a committee for tourism and agriculture. Mr. Alagie Jawara thanked his people for making him their National Assembly candidate. They all talked about the deplorable conditions of the roads in their respective constituencies and the need for good health posts.
