Foroyaa has been informed about the arrest of five members of the Gambia Transport Agriculture Food and Industrial Workers Union headed by Mr. Ousman Drammeh, who are presently held at the Gunjur police station.

The five who are being held are Omar Touray, Lamin Darbo, Batch Samba Jallow, Jim Haddin and Buba Krubally.

According to the source, the five union members were arrested yesterday, 27 June, 2016 at the sand mining area in Sambouya where they are stationed to be selling out-tickets to trucks that come to load.

When this reporter visited the said police station yesterday, he found the five union members behind bars. He was told that the five men were at the sand mining area when police officers came there and asked them to immediately report to the Gunjur police station. It is said that their arrest is as a result of a directive from above.

It is also gathered that some people came to the station to bail the arrested union members but this could not materialize.

When the police PRO was contacted to shed light on the issue, he promised to get back to this reporter as he was on a meeting.

However, he did not get back as we went to press.
