Club managers on Monday held closed door talks with Gambia Wrestling Association over the future of the sport, Wrestling clubForoyaa Sport can reveal.

Out of the public glare, the two parties were locked in discussions in the wake of recent brouhaha in the arena.

The negotiations, which began yesterday afternoon lasting till evening, were centered on a flurry of issues, top amongst which was to smoothen the somewhat strained relations between the GWA and club managers.

At the meeting, according to an insider, the GWA frowned over club managers’ recent action to bypass them and preferring to lodge their concerns directly to the National Sports Council, a thing the crew of managers promised to revisit.

In a face-to-face encounter, described as ‘successful’, our source added, both parties reached consensus on an array of things such as on the roles of the secretary general and presidency at all wrestling clubs to be occupied by Gambians, with disagreement on one sticking point and that is GWA’s proposal for all wrestling clubs to be governed by a constitution.

The session wrapped up with differences between the sides virtually buried.

The talks, in pundits view, marked the sign of a new beginning and could positively shape the future of wrestling in Gambia.
