Flatten, headbowed punctuated by an air of desolation was what
summed up Gambian and Jabang-based wrestler Boy Ballas’ night as Senegalese opponent Baye Mandiaye roared off to victory at the Independence Stadium.
With an impressive standing statistic of four victories in as five matches, Boy Balla –considered one of last season’s emerging sensations –was tipped to come out unscathed against a stronger experienced opposition from Senegal’s Balla Gaye’s club, Baye Ma Ndiaye.
Witnessed by hundreds of supporters, the two wrestlers that soaked in holy waters, did not walk into the arena till night descended.
Gambia’s Boy Balla retreated out of the sacks under pressure from a charging Baye Ma Ndiaye. Restart of the combat as well marked the end of it as Baye Ma Ndiaye dived a Balla’s right hand blow to grab his opponent’s right leg who fell on the ground.
The action was followed by an upraorious cheers from the stands in a bout that lasted 15 seconds.
The combat organised by Lamin Champion Sound, was Senegal’s third victory in Borreh dorr in Senegambian derby after Kartuss and Zoss previously overcome African Nouhan and Jinneh Morri –all Gambian wrestlers.
Meanwhile, in a new development over the weekend, Gambia Wrestling Association hosted an –all stakeholders’ meeting in which rules of the sport topped the discussion.
The gathering, including managers of wrestling clubs and promoters, were reminded of the need to adhere to rules of the game and as well start contest on time –beginning 4pm -7pm. It was also put to promoters to pay signed wrestlers on time.]]>
