Will The National Assembly Ever Shut Down The Operation Of Government?

QUESTION OF THE DAY

Readers would recall the shutdown of government operation in the USA when a conservative Congress sought to prevent Obama from carrying out some of his policies. Obama relied on contingency measures.

In a genuine democratic state partisan consideration would always be set aside when it comes to promoting the public interest. The power to propose budgets is in the hands of the execute. The power to approve budgets is in the hands of the legislature. Without their cooperation there would be a shutdown of government services and the people would suffer. No genuine representative would allow such a state of affairs.

Tomorrow is when the National Assembly of The Gambia would consider to approve or not to approve the budget laid before them by the Minister of Finance. The Constitution has given them 14 days to come to a final decision on the allocations for 2020.
