Since the tour of the president during the campaign period of the National Assembly to the tour of the minister of agriculture till this day, the farmers have one message: “We had a poor harvest last year and therefore lack seeds; we cannot afford fertilizer; help us with seeds and fertilizer so that we can boost production”. The government reduced the price of fertilizer from D950 to D700 but the farmers continue to lament, saying they do not just have the means and called for further reduction.
Will the government answer to their call? The weather office recently forecast plenty of rains this season. It makes sense to take advantage of this window of opportunity to ensure that farmers get adequate supply of fertilizer at an affordable price in order to boost production and reduce poverty.
Needless to say, time is running out as the rains have already started.
