Foroyaa has been informed that female personnel of the Gambia Immigration Department (GID) are currently being held at the Tanji Immigration post for some time now based on orders from superiors. One source puts the number at about 30.

According to the source, these female personnel were each asked to report to the Tanji post at different times and upon arrival were detained. Fear of losing job has made some loved ones to restrain comments.

When this reporter visited the place which housed the camps of both the Immigration and Gambia Navy yesterday, 20 January, 2016 to verify the claim, it was confirmed that they were there but was denied access to the detainees by an officer who is said to be in charge at the time. He could not say why they have been brought there. He directed the reporter to the Immigration Public Relation Officer (PRO) for more details.

When the Director General of The Gambia Immigration Department was contacted to enquire why these female Immigration personnel were held there, he declined to comment on the grounds that Foroyaa had already published something on the matter before contacting him. The Ministry would be contacted for further clarification.
