By Mustapha Jallow Sheikh Cham, a young man residing in Lamin, claimed that he was arrested and beaten up on Thursday, 19 March 2015 around 9pm by fouragents of the National Drug Enforcement Agency (NDEA), while escortinga friend who paid him a visit.Mr. Cham said he was physically assaulted by the agents who put him in hand cuffs and later took him to the Wellingara Police Station where he was detained in an isolation cell until around midday the following day. “Before putting me in a cell, I was asked to write a statement and I spent the night there after which I was released on bail,” said Mr. Cham. He showed a swollen eye and forehead as injuries inflicted on him by those who assaulted him. He also mentioned five names as those he claims are his assailants. Mr. Cham said when he reported to the Wellingara police on bail on Monday (23 March) he was asked to report again on Wednesday (today). Contacting the NDEA on the issue yesterday, the Public Relation Officer (PRO), ASP Modou Jobe said they are not aware of the incident and that the complainant should come and report the matter to their office.]]>
