WHEN WILL THE EXILES FROM KERR MOT ALI HAVE JUSTICE?

222

QUESTION OF THE DAY

Residents of Kerr Mot Ali who are followers of Ndigal were forced into exile in Senegal during the Jammeh era. When President Barrow assumed power they took their case to court claiming that they have a right to return to their land and judgment was entered in their favour but the Sheriff Division of the High Court could not execute the court order for them to return to their land due to the intervention of the then Attorney General.

Even though there is a new Attorney General they still cannot return to their land and continue to be in exile where they lack basic amenities and their movement is restricted by police at the border. The recommendation of the TRRC that they should return to their land has not changed the status quo. Justice is still eluding them. The Attorney General needs to give attention to their plight and ensure that justice is done and be seen to be done, bearing in mind that justice delayed is justice denied.
