QUESTION OF THE DAY

WHAT IS PRESIDENT JAMMEH’S REACTION TO THE CALL FOR HIM TO HAND OVER POWER TO PRESIDENT –ELECT BARROW?

Rumours were rife that the APRC stalwarts will take the streets to show the four heads of state of ECOWAS that they do not accept the results when they visited the Gambia on Tuesday, 13 December 2016. No one was in the street as rumoured.

Secondly, President Jammeh has invited religious leaders for a discussion on the situation in the country. What they told him was not broadcast by GRTS. What they said to him is yet to be made public.

Gambians should now put the country first. This is the salvation of all. A peaceful transfer of power will leave the members of the national assembly, the members of councils and servants of the state in their positions to wait for fresh elections.

On the other hand, violent change leads to the overthrow of government and the reconstitution of all institutions of the state.

All the members of the APRC party should therefore be in support of a peaceful transfer of executive authority. Anything short of this will not serve their interest in both the short and long run. The members of the APRC party should engage in frank talk and subscribe to the peaceful transfer of power before it is too late.
