The might of the state should be used to protect the liberty of the individual. When it is used to fetter the liberty of the individual impunity takes root. The trend is clear. The whole world would work in unison to expose the detention of a person while the state becomes mute. Eventually, the state releases the person without any legal action. How does a state expect to earn integrity by such behaviour? Why should its supporters claim that there is international conspiracy to tarnish its image when it is failing to curb conduct which merits international outcry? A government reaps the reputation it sows. It is time to put an end to detention without trial.]]>
